How to Make Sure You’re Prepared for Your Big Chemistry Exam

While chemistry does come easy for a select few, this abstract science can prove to be one of the most challenging subjects a student will ever face. However, that does not preclude high school students from having to take chemistry exams. If a student lives in the state of New York, odds are he or she will end up sitting for one of the following chemistry exams:
• New York State Chemistry Regents

• SAT Subject Test in Chemistry

• AP Chemistry Test

While some tests are easier than others, each test will present its own challenges to the student test taker. With that in mind, it is essential that students enter their chemistry test as well-prepared as possible. The following information should prove useful in ensuring students have the best shot at the target score they are striving towards.

Get Help from a Highly Qualified Tutor

Yes, you need some time digging through books on your own. But it’s also necessary to have someone act as your guide as you study. That means you need a chemistry tutor to help you focus your studies. When you find a highly qualified tutor, they will assess you and figure out where you should concentrate most of your studies, allowing you to make the most of your time. They can also answer those difficult questions for you that you can’t figure out on your own. Finally, they can offer you proven study techniques to help you perform your absolute best.
Study Early and Often

Too often students wait until the night before, or even the week before, to start studying for their big chemistry exam. However, the truth is, that is not really studying. That is called “cramming.” Studying is when you begin preparation well in advance. You have a system in place for how you will achieve success on your chemistry exam, and you are consistent with the steps you must take to make that success a reality. Having a qualified tutor can help you with that consistency. When you go it alone, you are depending on yourself to keep up with your studies. However, when you commit to a tutoring company, you must attend regular tutorial sessions, forcing you to stay on a regimented schedule.
Rest Your Brain the Night Before

As tempting as it is to get that last minute studying in the night before the exam, you really should resist the urge. If you have adequately prepared in advance, it’s time to give your brain a good rest. Think of it this way: marathon runners don’t go out and run sprints the night before their big run. If they did, they’d be exhausted the morning of their big race and be unable to finish. Instead, they rest the day before the race, allowing their body to recoup in preparation for one of the most grueling activities they will ever experience. That’s exactly how you should handle your chemistry exam. You train often, but taper off towards the end. Your brain needs to rest up because it is going to need to be running on all cylinders, full speed ahead, to perform its very best on test day.
